  • Why Chongqing

A City Built Between Mountains and Rivers

Chongqing is often described as China's cyberpunk city, where monorails pass

through buildings, roads rise across multiple levels and illuminated towers reflect across

    the Yangtze and Jialing rivers.

Beyond its futuristic imagery, Chongqing is a deeply local mountain city shaped by

hillside neighborhoods, river crossings, regional food and an urban layout unlike

anywhere else in China. It also works as a base for exploring Wulong, the Dazu

Rock Carvings and longer journeys through the Three Gorges region.

    Spring & Autumn

  • Know Before You Go

    Planning Your Chongqing Visit

    Getting Around

Chongqing's metro and monorail system connects most central areas, though stairs and slopes are common. Ride-hailing offers a more direct option for less accessible locations.

    Walking and Terrain

Chongqing is built on hills, and even central routes can involve significant elevation changes. Comfortable footwear makes a noticeable difference.

    Weather and Visibility

Chongqing is often overcast, particularly in winter. For the clearest views and best night photography, spring and autumn generally provide better conditions.

    Food and Spice Levels

Chongqing hot pot is famously spicy. Most restaurants offer adjustable broth options — ask if you prefer milder dishes, and try the sesame oil dipping sauce to moderate the heat.

    Airport and Travel Time

Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport connects to the city center by metro, express bus and taxi. Allow sufficient transfer time during peak hours.
