Guilin Travel Guide
The gateway to China's most iconic karst landscapes — the same limestone peaks and winding rivers that set the stage for The Painted Veil and inspired painters and poets for centuries.
Guilin is the starting point for exploring the limestone peaks, rivers and rural landscapes of northeastern Guangxi. Stay in the city for its lakes, caves and transport connections, then continue by Li River cruise to Yangshuo for a slower countryside experience.

Know Before You Go
Planning Your Guilin Visit
Getting There
Guilin Liangjiang International Airport (KWL) serves domestic and some international routes. High-speed rail connects Guilin, Guilin North and Guilin West stations to major cities. Check the exact station name before booking — they are different stations and not equally convenient for every hotel.
Getting Around
Taxis and DiDi are available in the city. Airport and station transfers can be arranged. Li River cruises usually include pier transfer — confirm whether hotel-to-pier transport is included.
Guilin to Yangshuo
The Li River cruise takes about half a day and is the classic scenic option. Buses and private transfers are also available. Confirm the cruise pier and transfer arrangement before booking.
Guilin to Longji
Allow a full day or overnight for the Longji Rice Terraces trip north of Guilin. An overnight stay offers a quieter experience than a rushed day trip. Leave extra time for the mountain roads.
Weather & Preparation
Summer is hot and humid. Spring rain can reduce visibility but creates atmospheric river scenery. Carry rain protection outside the dry season.
Essential Tips
Bring your passport for ticketed attractions and transport. Book Li River cruises ahead during public holidays. Do not treat Guilin and Yangshuo as the same accommodation base.
